Jacques-Yves Cousteau was a French naval officer, explorer, ecologist, filmmaker, innovator, scientist, photographer, author and researcher who studied the sea and all forms of life in water.

Captain Cousteau produced more than 100 films for television, which won Emmys and numerous other awards. He also produced three full-length theatrical feature films, The Silent World (Oscar and Palme d'Or), World Without Sun (Oscar and Grand Prix du Cinema Francais pour la Jeunesse) and Voyage to the Edge of the World. Captain Cousteau wrote, in collaboration with various co-authors, more than fifty books, published in more than a dozen languages.
